A VPS is a virtual private server, sometimes called a Virtual Dedicated Server (VDS). It is similar to shared hosting: the physical server is divided into several virtual servers owned by different users. Unlike shared hosting, all resources are allocated (not shared with other users), which means your sites won’t crash if the “neighbor” overloads their virtual server. This type of hosting is well suited for a growing website which averages around 5000 – 10000 visits per day.
Data centers are central repositories of information. This includes server farms and network equipment that stores, processes, and distributes vast amounts of data to clients. Data centers can provide services such as data warehousing, data insights, data warehousing, etc.

Contrary to popular belief, the number of data centers is actually decreasing every year. Their number was estimated at 8.4 million in 2017, and is expected to drop to 7.2 million in 2022. However, this is still more due to the drop in average server prices due to lower component costs.
1. Hostinger
If you are new to the online business game, you better pay attention as you will want to read about Hostinger.
Hostinger is steadily growing in popularity for offering balanced hosting. In other words, very powerful hosting features at reasonable prices.
We have several test sites with them hosted in 3 of their data centers, so you can see how well they perform on every continent. Here are the results from our server speed test.
The US data center is really fast, returning a global average of 136ms. Requests from as far away as Singapore, Sydney, and Bangalore seem to have a bit slow response times, but that’s why Hostinger has set up several data centers around the world – to make sure your site is fast no matter where your customers are.
2. SiteGround
SiteGround is officially certified by WordPress (it’s kind of a big deal, guys!), and this kind of recognition is only given to web hosts that meet WordPress’ high standards.
Our favorite package is the entry-level GrowBig plan; Very affordable at only $7.99 per month but it comes packed with features and benefits. You can enjoy priority support, SuperCacher, automatic daily backups and free restore.
They have 10 data centers spread across 4 continents, and they all use the Google Cloud Platform! Choose one that is closest to your target audience to improve site loading speeds.
Cloudflare activation is built into the system, so if you want faster speeds, no problem – you can do it with the click of a button.
3. Bluehost
Bluehost is one of the most reputable brands, with a good 16 years’ experience as a web host.
Just like SiteGround, they are recommended by WordPress for their dedication to their infrastructure and excellent 24/7 support team.
Speedwise, it’s pretty good too! They got a solid A+ with a world average of 153ms.

Votes from the US performed very well at less than 80ms each but scores from faraway countries were a bit slower than, as low as 330ms in India.
4. DreamHost
When it comes to world famous web hosts, DreamHost is one of the most popular names. Founded in 1997, it has remained a very powerful web host, and is still one of the few hosts that is officially certified by WordPress.
This WordPress trust vote makes the most sense when you look at Dream Host’s speed performance. They have invested a lot in optimizing their servers, and they have very great response times to show!
The results were absolutely stunning, with a very fast global average of 118.4 milliseconds! As expected, speeds became slower in the more distant regions, with the slowest location being Singapore at 242ms.
DreamHost has two data centers in the United States. This means that as long as your audience is close to the Americas, they should have blink speeds.
DreamHost stores all data in solid state drives that are twice as fast as hard drives. Plus, their servers are WordPress optimized, which means they’re running WordPress like a dream.

5. GreenGeeks
They have everything that makes an outstanding web host.
Powerful and reliable data centers, a strong support team, advanced infrastructure, Git compatibility, and CloudFlare integration that works.
But what makes them special isn’t how they make things load faster (which is already taken for granted) but rather what they do with the company. GreenGeeks is giving back the planet by investing 3 times of every amp they use in renewable energy!
